This week, two new gTLDS are released for general access: .pub and .services. After last month’s big .xyz release, there hasn’t been a major gTLD release until today. With pub culture being as popular as ever in the UK, the new .pub domain is expected to hit thousands of registrations with pub owners from across the UK and beyond. And with regards to .services, again there is expected to be quite a bit of interest from businesses that offer all types of services.
This new gTLD is the newest place to promote a bar or pub on the Internet. The great thing about this new gTLD is that it will be instantly recognisable to customers, they will know that the website will contain information for a pub or bar.
Due to the popularity of pubs across the world (there are over 50,000 pubs in the US alone for example), .pub is expected to be taken up with open arms, especially in the UK. David Ryan, general manager of the .pub registry, Rightside, said: “We know the pub industry in the UK is looking for opportunities to grow. We are excited about the new availability of .pub domain names and are hopeful that the launch of .pub websites will give business owners a new avenue to attract customers and tourists online.”
With the exception of some choice domain names, Rightside has announced that there will not be premium pricing for the domains and also that anyone will be able to register .pub domains; so you do not need to be a pub owner to register a domain. You could for example have plans to open a pub or bar later on and you already know what you want to call it; in this case you will still be able to register the domain in advance. We are excited about the new availability of .pub domain names and are hopeful that the launch of .pub websites will give business owners a new avenue to attract customers and tourists online
The new home for companies and businesses that offer hospitality, consulting, financial, repair or any other type of service, .services is a recognisable new gTLD for customers seeking support for services provided by companies from around the world. And if first day sales are anything to go buy, .services is set to be a very successful new gTLD.
Businesses all around the world are already snapping up the domain with over 4,000 sold in the first day. Donuts, the largest registry for new gTLDs, have been very excited for this release.
“We seldom place one of our gTLDs above others, but we do like this one,” Donuts co-founder and CEO Paul Stahura said in a . “In a worldwide service economy like the one in which we now operate, a gTLD like .SERVICES can be extremely useful for all kinds of service providers,” Stahura said.
We’re very excited to see if these two new gTLDs end up making waves. Are you looking to register a .pub or .services domain? Let us know on our Twitter page: https://twitter.com/domainmonster
