Setting up a website in minutes; You can do it!

We’re often asked about how quickly you can build your own website. It’s not an easy question to answer. There are so many things to take into account!

Setting Up A Website

However, what we’re hearing from lots of Domainmonster.com customers is that they just want a basic online presence.

They don’t want all the bells and whistles that are available, they just want a drag and drop website builder that will allow them to create their own website to show off their business, product, service, contact information or personal skills.

With the huge range of website builder software available, it’s difficult to know which one to use! If your domain name is already registered with Domainmonster.com then using our easy website builder is always your best option.

Setting up a website using our online website builder is incredibly simple.

Step 1: Choose Your Template – 5 Minutes

The template is the basic layout and look of your site.

Setting up a website - Step 1

Don’t forget that you can customise these templates by dragging and dropping different widgets into place, choosing different colour schemes and adding changing the default images to suit your website.

This step is really simple. I’m going to say the maximum amount of time you’ll need here is 5 minutes.

Clicking each template will show you a preview of the website, so you know exactly what your own web page is going to look like before settling on one template.

The website maker then does its magic and creates your website in a matter of seconds.

Step 2: Remove Unwanted Widgets – 3 Minutes

This is really easy too.

No template is going to be perfect, it never is!

You’ll want to customise the template to your exact requirements before adding your content. Don’t forget that all of these widgets can be added or removed on the fly, so don’t get too worked up if you delete or add one by accident.

In our example, I simply want our home page to display a banner, introduction to the service, social buttons and a couple of product images.

This is a really simple way to get your website looking the way you want!

Step 3: Customise Website Text – 20 Minutes

This is probably the most time consuming part of building your own website.

Setting Up A Website - Step 3

You’re not going to pay an expensive copywriter to do it for you! We’re being all self-sufficient remember!

Creating copy for your website can be difficult, but for the purposes of this test, we’re going to presume you know what you want to say!

Click or insert a text widget and get typing! Remember what we’ve told you about free keyword tools if you’re stuck with which keywords you’ll want to include in your content.

Step 4: Add a Custom Header Image – 3 Minutes

The header at the top of your website is probably the first thing a visitor will look at when they land on your site. It’s a good idea to customise this as soon as possible.

Step4

I’ve used a generic banner just as an example. There are loads of stock photos and graphics out there that you can utilise for your own graphics when setting up a website.

Let’s say you’ve already got one on your computer. All you have to do is upload that image and resize it as you see fit!

Step 5: Add your Social Buttons – 10 Minutes

One thing that all good modern websites should have is some form of social sharing buttons.

Build your own website - Step 5

The advantages of social media are well documented. Luckily, our online website builder will help you create social sharing buttons with ease.

Facebook, Twitter and Google+ are all here. Simply drag the relevant widgets onto your page and that’s that!

Now your visitors can help spread the word about your website using these simple, single click buttons.

If you wanted to take your social media optimization a step further you could also add a Facebook like box or a stream of your latest Tweets. Both are easy to set up using the Facebook Like or Twitter widgets.

Step 6: Preview Your Website and Make Necessary Changes – 10 Minutes

So your site is finally starting to take shape.

You’ve customised your template, added the right content and given your visitors the opportunity to share your page.

The next thing to do is see what it will look like online!

Design Your Own Website - Step 6

Click the big preview button to see what your hard work has produced.

Now 9 times out of 10 there will be something there that you think doesn’t look quite right. Luckily our website builder lets you preview your site on the fly, then quickly return to the ‘Website’ tab and make the changes you need.

I’ve allowed 10 minutes for this as for the purposes of this post, we shouldn’t need to make too many changes as we’re only getting our basic site up.

Setting up a website is easy. Crafting it into a brilliant website may take more time! Remember to always preview any changes you make to your site before you publish it!

That’s the best way to prevent anything strange happening on your live site.

Step 7: Publish Your Website! – 1 Minute

Here’s the fun part!

Setting Up A Website - Step 7

Now you’ve got everything in place, you’ve setup your own website, added your images, text and social buttons, there’s only one thing left to do!

Hit that shiny orange ‘Publish’ button to take your website live!

Now the only thing left to do is tell everyone you know about your website. Shout it from the rooftops, Tweet it every day, share it with your friends on Facebook and anywhere else you can!
